This page is “All Things Extravaganza“. Our Christmas Extravaganza has become a solid annual feature in the Wincanton calender. Since it was started, this event has grown year-on-year. For 2011 The Extravaganza will step up another gear and be even bigger and better.

Question: What is “The Extravaganza”?

Answer: The Extravaganza is an evening of late night shopping with the bonus of entertainment in many forms. This is a great start to the Christmas season.

In 2010 The Extravaganza was held on the second Friday in December. However, for 2011 we are delighted to be partnering with Wincanton Town Council, making the switching on of our town Christmas Tree Lights the official opening ceremony for The extravaganza. It’s a great way to bring our residents and visitors together for this very important ceremony that signals the official start of the Christmas Season in Wincanton. Wincanton Town Mayor Colin Winder will do the honours of switching on the lights, and officially open The Extravaganza on the night. The ceremony will start with 10/15 minutes of carols being belted out around the Town Christmas Tree. This will be backed by students from King Arthur’s and Wincanton Primary Schools, and led by the Rev Nigel Feaver. After that evryone will be set loose to enjoy the evening and all the attractiions that will be available.

What  attractions I heare you say? No problem we will tell you about each one………between now and 2nd December. So please spread the word and check this page regulalry. We will add entries with descriptions on a drip feed basis. We want to build up the excitement as the event draws closer. In the meantime we want to encourage  you to do your bit for The extravaganza. To be successful this event needs help  from  multiple people.

  • WBT has planned the event and is now putting the programme together.
  • We need our local businesses to sign up and take part in the event.
  • We need our local businesses to actively market this event to all their clients starting now.
  • We need all our town residents to start spreading the word to all their friends and family.

The extravaganza will not succeed or fail depoending on how good/bad WBT happens to be. WBT is the facilitator. The success or failure of this event and any other community event depends entirely on the support of our local businesses and residents. We’ve planned it. We hope that you will continue to support it more and more for 2011 and many years to come.

So, watch this space for updates, and then spread the   word. We want you all to become brilliant gossips for this excellent annual event. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us using the details on our “Contact” page.
